Hey guys,

Basically, I've just recently moved to Brighton all the way from Sheffield for a job. I consider myself pretty settled here now, so I'm now looking to get involved my hobby of DnB again, with like minded people.

I was wondering if any DJs or producers would be interested in forming a Drum & Bass crew/collective?

At this stage, I'm really just interested in establishing contacts, networking, and making friends - nothing formal. I'd like to be involved in something pretty low-key, such as putting on a small night maybe, collaborating on tunes, DJing out together, bouncing ideas off each other. At this point I'd like to make clear that I understand it's incredibly difficult to make a living from Drum & Bass - breaking even is bloody difficult. Although DnB is a somewhat serious hobby for me, I want to have fun, I'm really not in it for the money.

Sound good? Thanks for reading.

http://www.youtube.com/user/superplexbeats

A bit about myself (quoted from MySpace):

...Between 2004 and early 2007 I probably clocked up around 100 beats before giving up this hobby entirely due to frustration and boredom. I returned to beat production in early 2008 after being exposed to some heavy drum & bass through Sheffield’s regular mid-week night, The Tuesday Club and Dillinga's awesome Valve Soundsystem. I jumped straight back into the production game and played around with some electronica, which led to the creation of my first EP: Just Brainstorming.

As a result of exploring the drum & bass genre and learning more about its characteristics, I soon found my niche - I shifted my attention and efforts towards the production of liquid funk. It was early 2009 and most people were aware of the unstable economic climate. In response, I release my second (suitably titled) EP/promo CD: Curriculum Vitae.

Since beginning my journey in drum & bass, I have been lucky enough to gain support from a variety of sources. My first taste of minor success came when my track “Inhibitions” received airplay on Huw Stephen’s BBC Introducing… show on Radio One. I have sinced received support from BBC Radio Sheffield’s Raw Talent show and Liquicity, the popular liquid drum & bass podcast.

Do you mean if I were dragged into an ice cream shop?

I would hope they sell the waffles Wunty Wun was talking about.

Also, I'm quite surprised there are no pancake shops around. Years ago I lived in Holland and the pancake shops were ace. We used to go to one every weekend. My ma and pa used to have savoury and me and me sis would have sweet.

Prior to living in Holland we lived in Dundee and even they had a pancake house.

As far as i know there isn't one in Brighton.

So please open one

Many thanks

Thank you for the above feedback.

Scoop and Crumb is good dont get me wrong but being from London and having various ice cream from around the world while travelling i was not blown away, there service was decent and they were full and there tucked away as saidi thought a little expensive 2:10 a scoop and thought that there selection on ice cream was not huge. However love there look and there appeal to local familys and trade.

Angle food does good cupcakes however again was not blown away however again loyal local base of customers.

Lick cant believe how poor that is.... I was suprised at the cost of there drinks and other items.

May I ask your name, age and sex and job? only asking as we looking for people from brighton to talk to.

We want to offer the best value and quality we can with a few twists along the way.

I'm afraid I think Scoop and Crumb is amazing. It's always packed. All home-made, which is good. I don't quite get why you weren't impressed, which makes me excited for whatever you can come up with.

I love the Angel Food bakery too.

If you want to compete, then I'd suggest the only way is to get yourself on or near Gardner Street/Bond Street or somewhere around there, and get the crowds and passing trade: Scoop and Crumb is quite tucked away. It's hard to set up and pull people off the beaten track now there's a couple of players.

I'm always happy to see new ice cream and cake shops, and I'm often struck how the North Laine doesn't really have one (Cafe Utopia is properly shit), though the cornish pasty shop near Infinity does great cakes and Cafe Delice opposite HSBC is good (but a coffee shop, not a cake shop). So I'd say that's your target.

Lick is very disappointing, and I'm surprised they haven't gone tits-up. They opened only doing one flavour of frozen yoghurt with toppings, so I didn't bank on them lasting the first winter. I note they're trying to be a coffee and hot chocolate shop instead now.

I absolutely and completely love ice cream and cakes with every fibre of my being, so if you're as good as or better than Scoop and Crumb then I promise I'll come. And cum, probably. Just don't be too expensive, Scoop and Crumb prices are about right.

EDIT - that's not to say it won't be a hell of a risk, but I'm sure you know that! Plus, of course, quality doesn't always win out. Good luck

Hey guys,

Im new to this forum and would like to ask a few people some questions if poss.
Me and my partner are looking to open a new ice cream cafe in Brighton that will sell Ice cream and Cupcakes and other amazing cakes.

We have been to scoop and crumb and to Angle food bakery and both are doing very well, but was not blown away with there taste and quality, if we were to open up in this area would local people try this new store or stay with what they have?

Question 4 is ambiguous. Re-write it to say either "count return journeys as one" or "count return journeys as two" because I don't know which you mean.

Question 5 is meaningless. It might be important that things are in season, but do I buy them? can I even get them? Do I try to buy in season but also enjoy bananas and November asparagus?

Question 10 is a bit nonsensical. I don't partake in curb-side recycling. I do recycle all my glass, metal and paper.

Question 12 is completely meaningless.

However, I do hope the conclusions of your dissertation will rip your methods to shreds and state when you can't possibly draw any worthwhile conclusions from an internet questionnaire.
