General News
11th Hour
Published 6th Jun 2005 by Crashneil
The engine room was launched in June Last year and is coming up for it's first birthday. The company behind the project Mission Control Clubs was formed by partners Chris Stevens?s promoter of the famous Hove Town hall rock night and Neil Campbell (AKA CrashNeil) promoter of Crash.
Brighton has long claimed it's cosmopolitan title but despite the abundance of yoga classes and samba bands the city lacked an alternative venue. Chris and Neil are both avid fans of Brighton's rock scene and came together to give the city its first real 'rock club' in over six years.
The Engine Room was the perfect choice as a venue due to its cavernous layout and it's historical importance in the Alternative scene. Hidden away in its basement location The Engine room was once the original home to the first and most famous of Brighton's left field clubs. Subterfuge was at it's hey day one of the most famous club nights in the uk and 20 years on Mission Control clubs are taking the legendary venue back to it's roots.
Catering for all tastes The Engine Room boasts and impressive stable of club nights from The legendary Lowlife, Brighton's longest running alternative night now in it's 11th year, to Punk Rock Karaoke which has seen some stars from the public in addition to the likes of Mikee Smith from Sikth and Peter Testable from the testable babies taking to the stage. All tastes are catered for with rockabilly from the Brighton Rumble and Born Bad to Metal clubs like Deviant and Wrecking Ball even Art rockers feel at home at No fun and Art school Dropouts.
The 11th Hour, our latest project is the culmination of months of research and hard work. The lavish logo designed by legendary artist Vince Ray beautifully depicts the bordello atmosphere. With chaise longues and mood lighting the 11th hour is a decadent haven for hedonists. A work in progress it's unofficial low-key launch was designed to give a glimpse of what s to come. Open mic nights in the conservatory are complimented by a spectacular view of the sea and the West Pier and there are few places in the city where sunsets can be viewed so perfectly.
The member?s only preview weekend was a great success and our 4000 strong membership got a taste of what's in store.
Not Just a bar the 11th hour boasts a fully equipped restaurant serving a wide range of veggie, tapas and good old pub fayre. Private functions can be catered for and we've already picked up more than our fair share of advanced bookings. Local legend Robert Rankin has already organised the launch for his latest novel at the 11th Hour.
Remember the best things happen at the 11th Hour.
