2009 Green Pages Calls For Entries
By Sarah Lewis 6th Aug 2008
Work has started on the 2009 edition of the Brighton and Hove Green Pages, and businesses are being encouraged to sign up and show off their eco-credentials.
The environmental directory, which has been running since 2004, is back for its third installment. With over 300 organisations listed - from cleaners to clothes shops, from energy suppliers to campaign groups - it is a comprehensive guide to environmental and ethical services in Brighton, Hove and outlying areas. Businesses must adhere to a strict ethical policy before being listed.
Award-winning environmental journalist and editor of the Green Pages, Sarah Lewis, says: "We read a lot about how going green is as simple as turning off your lights or walking to work, but the truth is it can be a right pain to change habits we have spent lifetimes creating. Greenwashing can make it even more complicated to know what to do. The Green Pages is one of those tools that helps simplify life. It is a really handy reference guide for everyone - from people who just want to know where to buy an organic apple, to the super eco-committed."
Aisha Hannibal, coordinator of Brighton Peace and Environment Centre, which runs the project, says: “The Green Pages is a great way of putting all the information you need in one place to help you make all those practical choices – it's about making the connections between the way we live and all the big issues we face. It is really important for the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre to be able to support ethical businesses, and we also want to make it easier for people to make informed choices about what they buy and how they live.”
Listings are free, and can be requested by emailing info@brightongreenpages.org
