Amy Lame's Mama Cass Family Singers @ Komedia
Published 11th Jul 2007 by Chris Challis
Amy Lamé, co-founder of Duckie in London, was a chubby child star in a 60's cover band. Touring with her dysfunctional siblings she had everything she ever wanted - fame, fortune and sandwiches. She lived the American dream until it turned around and bit her on the ass. With acid-tongued wit and shocking revelation, Amy peels away the layers of her obscure past: Why were four fat kids made to sing? How did her family get so messed up? Did Mama Cass really die choking on a ham sandwich? A surreal collision of fantasy and fact, Amy Lamé's Mama Cass Family Singers is a tragi-comic misremembered memoir. The show features Amy's own family in brilliantly off-the-wall interviews alongside timeless tunes of the legendary Mamas and the Papas.
“A deliciously off-the-wall docudrama...” - The Stage
Amy's incredibly varied TV career began as a travel presenter on BBC2's Gaytime TV, trotting across the globe in a plus size polka dot bikini. Amy then went on to develop and present C4's The Staying In Show. TV appearances include Celebrity Fit Club, Richard and Judy, Loose Women, Daily Politics, The Wright Stuff, and dozens more. Radio credits span R4's Woman's Hour and Five Live to the award-winning BBC London breakfast show she co-presented with Danny Baker. Amy comfortably moves between the serious and frivolous with intelligence, wit and chutzpah. Her quirky, honest and up-front style has endeared her to television and radio audiences across the nation.
Awards on the Lamé mantlepiece include a SONY and an Olivier. She writes regularly for broadsheets and magazines including The Times, Observer, Independent on Sunday and Woman's Own. Amy hosts her own performance club night, Duckie, every Saturday, and her charming cheekiness impresses at the various award ceremonies and dinners she is asked to host. Amy is an accomplished presenter, voiceover artist and photographic model, too.
Amy Lame's Mama Cass Family Singers visit Komedia on Thursday 26 July at 8pm. Tickets are £12/£10.
