Antons Field - A Country Tale
Published 25th Apr 2005 by Evelyne Donnadieu
Nick Brice writer of Milo is debuting his new play, co-written with Evelyne Donnadieu, Anton's Field, at the Sanctury Cafe on the 7th of May as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival.
The story, set in a rural farming community, unfolds over one day. It is a partly satirical look at the search for spiritual happiness in conflict with the ambitious materialism of the modern day.
Anton has chosen a hermetic existence by living in a tent in a field that he has just purchased, hoping this will provide him with the happiness he has searched for. However a series of events turn against him acheiving this goal, fueled by the envious nature of George a ruthless, property developer and ring-leader of Roger a troubled farmer and his sadistic wife Julie. As these three conspire to take Anton's Field from him, Anton's impressionable young nephew, Jack, is drawn into their world.Only Julie's teenage daughter, Jess, remains innocent of their greedy ambitions and understands the purpose of Anton's hermetic existence. But she too is manipulated by George as the story is drawn towards a violent and tragic conclusion.
