Art While You Eat At Wagamama In Brighton

Art While You Eat At Wagamama In Brighton
Published 11th Oct 2011 by Jessica Lambert

Brighton artist Pam Glew has created an installation at wagamama brighton, providing a rare opportunity to see her work in her home city. the installation, which is now live in the window of wagamama, is part of art and eat, a project designed to create a unique showcase for some of the uk’s most exciting emerging artists.

Three pieces of pam glew’s work feature on the walls and in the window of wagamama in brighton until november 20, including a fine art print titled ‘window to the world’ and two specially commissioned flags. Pam is a contemporary artist who is best known for her unique bleaching technique on flags, drawing inspiration from terrorism, american culture and horror films. Glew never usually gets the chance to exhibit in brighton due to the scale of her projects, but her work will now be on show to thousands of diners a week, as well as passers by in the street.

Pam said: “I am so thrilled to have an installation in brighton’s wagamama, and for the people of my home town to see my work. It’s exciting to be part of art and eat and bringing art to diners, and I hope people enjoy joining the debate and critiquing my work.”

The artist has also created a series of 30 mini editions of her print ‘window to the world’ for the art and eat project. Each is priced at £99, with all proceeds going to the artist and are available at wagamama.com/artandeat

wagamama is working with arts company moniker projects, founders of london’s alternative art fair ‘moniker’ hosted during the capitals art week, to curate the project and commission the artists. A total of ten installations have been created and the unique collection incorporates a diverse range of styles, from bold and colourful street art to more refined and intricate painted artworks. Customers are encouraged to comment on the artwork while dining and tweet their thoughts using artandeat

art and eat placemats showcasing the artists’ work will also feature in all wagamama restaurants across the uk showcasing the artists work to over 170,000 diners each week.
