Battle Of The Beards At Beachdown Festival - My Federation Vs Magic Numbers

Battle Of The Beards At Beachdown Festival - My Federation Vs Magic Numbers
Published 28th Jul 2008 by Alix

ZZ top, Cat Stevens, Devandra Banhart, James Galway have all used the medium of facial hair to channel their musicality and Brighton’s forthcoming Beachdown Festival is lining up for another epic battle of Bearded bands.

Beachdown Festival, which takes place on the South Downs near Brighton, is hoping to cash in on the publics’ continued fascination with Bearded Frontmen by setting up a seismic clash of bearded titans in the headline slots on Saturday 23rd August when Bearded troubadors the ‘Magic Numbers’ go head to head against Brighton’s very own hirsute rock gods ‘My Federation’.

‘My Federation’ headline the Brighton Bands Stage on the Saturday as the Magic Numbers take to the main stage. Despite the Magic Numbers slightly heftier global profile My Federation are confident that the festival goers will turn out in force to support their more home grown facial hair and musical styling’s.

While Romeo from the Magic Numbers has declined to comment on the up-coming clash, My Federation’s lead singer (and bearded heart throb) Lee ‘Muddy’ Baker had this to say; “I got nothing against the Numbers or Romeo, but this is my town, this is my beard and we ain’t gonna take Beachdown lying down.”

My Federation play energetically melodic psychedelic rock, have just returned from a UK tour with James and in the last few weeks have been flying the Brighton flag at a number of European Festivals including a thoroughly Brighton day out at Positivus in Latvia where they shared the bill with other local acts British Sea Power and Fatboy Slim.

My Federation headline the Beachdown Festival Brighton bands stage from 11pm - Midnight on Saturday 23rd August.

‘A swirling swamp of muddy guitar melodies one moment and testosterone-fuelled rhythms the next... 60’s pop at its most pure and innocent, The Beach Boys before the mania and all the more charming because of it.’ – Q

‘Their material displays stadium-ready heft while also being playful, smart and, occasionally, beautiful. ****’ - Mojo

“I find My Federation irresistible, the combination of a groove for any dance-floor and a tune your tone deaf dad could hum, is a rare and wonderful thing.” – Eddy Temple-Morris, XFM

‘The track has got plenty of energy and bleeps, mixing synths and guitars.’ – The Sun

‘an orgy of synthesised, symphonic, rocked-up space-funk’ - The Guardian Music

‘Trashy, head shaking lo-fi with enough texture to warrant some real attention’ – Notion

‘My Federation have made a very nice record indeed!’ – Artrocker
