BBc?s Electric Proms ?next Stage? Tour
Published 13th Oct 2006 by Trevor
Since March 2006, South:Live and Brighton’s award-winning music venue Concorde2 have teamed up to bring you a monthly night for unsigned bands – The South:Live Albert Sessions. These free gigs take place monthly at The Albert on Trafalgar Street which fittingly sports a building-sized portrait of the patron Saint of unsigned bands, John Peel.
On Sunday November 26th The South:Live Albert Sessions come together with the BBC’s Electric Proms “Next Stage” Tour featuring sets by emerging bands from across England Ireland Scotland and Wales. The Brighton leg of the tour features sets by local lads Enid Blitz who were nominated to participate in the Electric Proms Festival by Radio 1, Cardiff’s The Spencer McGarry Season, selected by Radio Wales, plus + a very special appearance by Peggy Sue and the Pirates, who were nominated as one of the best acts in the Brighton Live 2006 Festival.
--------------------------------------------
Brighton based Enid Blitz are a four piece who were conceived on a rum fuelled stargazing beach mission in the Summer of 2005. They play catchy, stripped back guitarpop about rubbish 1960s architecture, Doctor's surgeries and pretty much anything else that doesn't fall into the 'I love her/I love beer/I love hair metal and I refuse to tidy my room' category.
Front-man Spencer McGarry is described as a “New-wave, strutting power popster applying skewed logic to his fantastically bewitching, melodic off-kilter songs”.
John Peel once famously said “I just want to hear something I haven’t heard before”. It is a great shame that he never got a chance to listen to Peggy Sue and the Pirates.
