Bent Double

Bent Double
Published 20th Jan 2010 by Komedia

On the first Sunday of every month, some of the biggest names from the circuit grace the Komedia stage to entertain the "up for it" crowd in Bent Double. A consuming brew of comedic delight, this gay friendly night promises a fabulous line up every time – and February’s show continues that trend as Angie McEvoy hits the stage alongside Suzi Ruffell and Alistair Barrie, all lovingly kept in line by MC Zoe Lyons.

Behind a sweet and chatty persona and style, Angie McEvoy hides a cunning comic persona that people underestimate at their peril. Angie launched her comedy career Edinburgh Festival in 2000, when she was voted runner-up in the BBC New Comedy Awards. Since that time, she has become a skilled performer and achieved critical acclaim as both writer and performer. A regular comedy guest on Richard & Judy and one of the few success stories to emerge from Channel 4's ill-fated RI:SE, she is also a regular contributor to the Vanessa Feltz Show (BBC London) and has written topical material for The Jeremy Vine Show (BBC Radio 2)..

Smutty, Sleazy and Sweary is NOT what you will find from newcomer Suzi Ruffell. If you'd prefer dogs yawning, social awkwardness and a lesbian handshake then she'll be the comic for you! A Bent Double favourite, this newcomer began stand-up last year and is already making a name for herself across the circuit gigging alongside likes of Lee Mack, Tim Vine and Phil Nichol.

Actor and comedian Alistair Barrie has been performing professionally for nearly an entire century (this one!). After the wild success of Bye George on the Southbank (**** - Scotsman, The London Paper, London Lite) and OrangAid with Bill Bailey and Tim Minchin (**** Evening Standard) at the Lyceum, Alistair followed all this heady madness by heading off to the Edinburgh Festival last August with a brand new show – Happiness – which wow-ed critics and punters alike, with Chortle heralding Barrie “a natural, with an incisive intelligence behind his hilarious punchlines”.

Zoe Lyons came to stand up comedy out of desperation and after many years of being a committed under achiever. In 2003 Zoe did a five minute open spot at a new act night. She got the comedy bug and hasn't looked back since, winning the national Funny Women competition and got to the final of So, You Think Your Funny? In 2004. She now gigs regularly all over the country and has resident gigs in both Brighton and London. She also demonstrated to the nation her ability to laugh in the face of adversity, as a contestant on ITV's 'Survivor!' where she ate a rat and lived to tell the tale (and no, rat does not taste like chicken), has appeared on BBC’s Mock The Week, and won the ‘Funniest Joke of the Festival’ Award in 2008.

BENT DOUBLE visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 7 February at 7.30pm (food served from 6pm). Tickets are £21.50 (meal deal) / £10 / £8 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
