Comedy News
Bent Double
Published 19th Apr 2010 by Matt Costello
On the first Sunday of every month, Bent Double brings some of the biggest names from the circuit to grace the Komedia stage to entertain the "up for it" crowd. This gay friendly night offers a brew of comedic delight and a fabulous line up everytime, and May’s show is no different. With MC Cathy P hosting the night, Paddy Lennox hits the stage alongside Shazia Mirza and Marian Pashley
Irish comedian and actor Paddy Lennox, described by The Telegraph as “...simply a scream.”, first burst on to stage as a stand-up in 2001, only to be interrupted with a couple of comedies at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre and filming in far off lands. His return to stand-up in 2002 was rewarded with finalist places in the Laughing Horse, BBC Regional comedy and the Jongleurs Metro competitions. Since then he has gone on to have several successful runs at Edinburgh Fringe with the stand-up group AAA, as well as working the corporate scene including gigs for the BBC and ITV, he’s also featured on Sky Poker and Talksport Radio. An engaging and instantly likeable comic, Paddy combines topical material with observational routines. “Comedy the way it should be: a laugh-a-minute which leaves the audience wishing the show was just a little bit longer ... gentle Irish lilt belies a mischievous sense of humour.” Fest
Revered, applauded, loved and reviled Shazia Mirza is an award-winning comedian recognised for her unique comedic talents. Appearances on Have I Got News For You, The Now Show, NBC's Last Comic Standing and Paramount Comedy’s The World Stands Up have gained her a loyal following. Fusing contemporary issues with her own personal experiences, Shazia pressed a lot of buttons with her tabboo-breaking, deadpan, confident style, which in 2003 won her the accolade of being listed as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy by The Observer.
Marian Pashley is an established comedian on both the London and national comedy circuit. She is a festival veteran, previously playing the lead in Radio 4 commissioned play "No Future in Eternity", appearing in sell-out sketch show "Six Pack", three- hander "Stand Up Women" and performing her first one-woman show. Described by The Guardian as “delightful”, she is known for her caustic humour and dry delivery, and has numerous T.V. and radio credits including "The Best of the Comedy Network" on Channel 5, "Net Dot Comedy" and improv show "Consequently".
BENT DOUBLE visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 2 May at 7.30pm (food served from 6.30pm). Tickets are £21.50 (meal deal) / £10 / £8 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
