Bent Double Offers Up Ava Vidal, Tom Allen And More For Brighton's Comedic Delight
Published 29th Jun 2010 by Matt Costello
On the first Sunday of every month, Bent Double brings some of the biggest names from the circuit to grace the Komedia stage to entertain the "up for it" crowd. This gay friendly night offers a brew of comedic delight and a fabulous line up everytime, and July’s show is no different. With MC Zoe Lyons hosting the night, Ava Vidal hits the stage alongside Tom Allen and Maureen Younger.
Ava Vidal is a cool and composed performer with an intriguing past. She was a teenage mum, she earned a living as a prison officer before turning to stand-up, a move inspired by watching Chris Rock. An accomplished young stand-up, Ava has quickly risen through the comedy ranks. The only female finalist in the BBC 3 New Comedy Awards in the very first year of her career, she already has a clutch of TV appearances to her name, including the BBC's Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, Comedy Central's The World Stands Up, Edinburgh and Beyond and C4 reality show Kings of Comedy. Most recently she appeared on Channel 4's Magners Best of the Brighton Fest. Widely acclaimed as a face of the future by the critics, Ava is certainly an act to watch.
In 2005 Tom Allen won the competition So You Think You’re Funny in Edinburgh and went on to win the BBC New Comedy Award later that same year. Since then he has performed at Just For Laughs in Montreal, Queer Up North in Manchester, Glasgow and Leicester Comedy Festivals, London’s Soho Theatre, New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade and has had his own show at the Edinburgh Fringe for the past three years. 2009 saw a second series of The Correspondent, which he co-writes and performs for BBC Radio 4 and guest appearances on Loose Ends, The Richard Bacon Show, Big Brother’s Big Mouth and Big Brother’s Little Brother.
Bent Double visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 4th July at 7.30pm (food served from 6.30pm). Tickets are £8 / £10 / £21.50 (meal deal) available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
