Bluetones @ C2, Brighton On Mon 9th Dec
Published 5th Dec 2002 by Alison@c2
Monday 9th Dec Bluetones. A welcome return for this timeless yet unique act, with deep, dark lyrics. Serious music with a great sense of humour ! + Archie Bronson Outfit. 8pm. ?11.
The Bluetones, Biography - 2001
The Bluetones are truly, madly and deeply in love with music. It shows. They have been a "working" act since Day One, this is their sixth consecutive year of success. They are 'the last gang in town', a one-band scene. "We're not one of them bands that was formed from a small ad, we're buddies, we've known each other forever" (Adam).
It was their last album, "Science & Nature" (released in May 2000), which finally gave the band the credit and acclaim for fine song crafting and
acknowledgement that The Bluetones have won of the most dedicated fan bases around. This is the band that nobody has been able to knock down yet...
The Bluetones started 2000 with "Keep The Home Fires Burning" - "a song about being beaten up by your stepdad" - then played a sell-out February tour, before releasing next single "Autophilia Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love My Car" ("I just thought it was funny to write about someone who's in love with their car. It's not about a particular car. Maybe a Triumph TR7" - Mark). Both of were Top 20 hits", "Science & Nature" was No.7 in the UK album charts, greatly acclaimed and highlights the huge potential that The Bluetones have managed to retain. They were in demand to play all the UK's major outdoor events. "Having never courted much media attention, the amassing of a rabid following by The Bluetones has long been a media mystery. So how do they do it? Simple. Showing wry sense of humour, engendering of a sense of belonging among devotees and effortless ways with a tune" (NME 2000)
The "Science & Nature" year ended with The Bluetones supporting Beautiful South at huge arenas round the UK where thousands of people discovered just how many of their songs have worked themselves into the soundtracks of our lives.
