Brighton Bands Take To The Stage At Atom Live Festival
Published 19th May 2008 by Amy

Student bands Bad Puppy and Young Karupt both from Brighton, will be taking to the stage next Wednesday (21st May) to perform at ATOM Live Festival, the largest student music event in the UK.

ATOM Live Festival is a showcase of over 50 acts (ranging from rock to acoustic to dance) and takes place at the Custard Factory and Space2 in Birmingham. The festival also features ‘Audience With…’ style talks with drum ’n’ bass hero Goldie, Marc Marot (former MD of Island Records who signed Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, the Pulp, Nine Inch Nails), John Arnison (manager for Gabrielle, Cat Stevens, Marrillion) and Yolanda Charles (bassist with Robbie Williams, Paul Weller, Mick Jagger).

Both bands will be showcasing their talents alongside signed acts including Abraxus, Flipron and Dorp.

Ska Punk five piece Bad Puppy comprises of singer/guitarist Lee Turner 24, drummer/singer Eyal Shavit, singer Corrine Williams 23, Bass player Nathan Hacking 30 and guitarist Stephen Thomas 23. The band met and formed last November whilst studying on the Access to Music course in Brighton.

Singer/guitarist Lee Turner says

“As a band we have played lots of local gigs including Pressure Point and Portland Rock bar but we are really looking forward to playing with bands from across the UK at a national event. Its nerve wracking but exciting!”

Event organiser Jono Heale explains:

“This event is the biggest showcase of unsigned talent and the standard is incredible. We are thrilled to welcome Goldie to the event. Having worked with him before, we know what a huge inspiration he is to our students and musicians hoping to break into the music industry.”

ATOM LIVE Festival is hosted by Access to Music (ATM), the country's leading designer and provider of popular music training. With 20 centres nationally, ATM aims to provide quality, innovation and opportunity in music and increase the number of people who are actively involved in music at all stages in their lives.

ATM has helped thousands of artists including James Morrison, the Zutons, LMC, Pete Doherty, Soweto Kinch, Toploader & Starsailor.

Tutors of ATM have worked with top acts including Amy Winehouse, Peter Gabriel, Beverley Knight, Massive Attack, and Kylie.

Patrons of ATM are Sir George Martin CBE, Jools Holland OBE and Nitin Sawhney.
