Brighton Mixing Masters Set To Hit The Decks For Movida Corona
Published 2nd Aug 2011 by Jessica Lambert
Worldwide contest heads to Madam Geisha to find the next superstar DJ
Corona Extra, the authentic, easy-to-enjoy beer, is giving up-and-coming DJs in Brighton the unique opportunity to catapult their career onto the international house music scene, alongside some of the world’s leading house legends.
As the prestigious annual search marks its 11th anniversary, Madam Geisha in Brighton on Wednesday 3rd of August will play host to a Movida Corona qualifier party, where DJ hopefuls will take to the decks to showcase their mixing skills. Partygoers at the Movida Corona event will also have the opportunity to win an array of Corona Extra prizes, including headphones, watches, caps, and t-shirts.
One of 12 qualifier rounds across the UK, Movida Corona parties will tour 11 cities across the UK to search for and promote fresh, talent in dance music.
Around 250 British DJs are expected to take to the decks between August and September, all vying for the chance to become winner of Movida Corona 2011. Following the qualifier rounds, five regional playoff finals will take place, culminating in a national final at super club Ministry of Sound on October 18th. Last year’s champion, Charles VBV, will sit on the judging panel with finalists performing in front of 2,000 spectators to win a place at the grand final, taking place on the 12th November 2011 at Pacha, Madrid.
Globally, the competition will play host to over 500 eliminatory rounds and 20 national finals, with a record 25 countries taking part this year. From Dubai to Germany, Turkey to Greece; DJs will be hoping to life the Movida Corona 2011 crown, winning the ultimate, money-can’t-buy prize – the chance to perform a set at one of the world’s most coveted residencies, Pacha, headline the Movida Corona tour and record three mixes with Pacha Recordings.
The winner of the Brighton qualifier will receive two cases of Corona Extra and entry to the regional play-offs taking place in September. The overall UK winner will receive £1000 cash prize, Pioneer CDJ equipment, cases of Corona Extra and entry to the Movida Corona Grand Final in Madrid, complete with accommodation and VIP treatment.
Andy Milford, UK Marketing and Promotions Coordinator for Movida Corona and former Movida Corona Champion, comments: “Movida Corona has been showcasing and launching up-and-coming DJs into the spotlight for over a decade, providing a rare opportunity for fresh, new talent to breakthrough onto the worldwide house music scene. It’s increasingly difficult for DJs to make it big and become an international success; however the competition allows new DJs to gain exposure and have the chance to play their sets to huge audiences, which is a taster of what can be expected for the overall Movida Corona Champion 2011.
Andy continues: “Anyone who enjoys house music can get involved – whether they compete themselves or head along to support the participating DJs at the Movida Corona party taking place at Madam Geisha.”
To be in with a chance of competing for the coveted title of Movida Corona Champion 2011, DJs can submit their own 30 minute mix at www.movidacorona.com. All entrants must be over 18 years old.
DJ hopefuls also have an opportunity to fast-track their way to the grand final via ‘Facebook Chance,’ which allows each entrant to notify friends and fans that they’ve entered the competition. The DJ with the most Facebook votes will go directly through to the grand final.
Corona Extra is the authentic, easy-to-enjoy beer that enhances life’s meaningful moments for men and women everywhere. Available in all major supermarkets, convenience stores, off licences, bars and pubs nationwide, it is best enjoyed ice-cold with a slice of lime straight from the bottle.
