Brighton Rides High As One Of Britain’s All-time Favourite Seaside Resorts

Brighton Rides High As One Of Britain’s All-time Favourite Seaside Resorts
Published 29th Jun 2010 by Matt Costello

Brighton is the UK’s second all-time favourite seaside resort, according to new research by consumer champion Which? Holiday*.

While Blackpool has been ranked number one** in the independent survey of over 4,000 members of the public, Brighton comes in a close second***. The promenade, pier and unique shopping experience of “the Lanes” came in for particular praise. Its close proximity to open countryside is also valued by visitors, and the town proved popular amongst day-trippers and families.

Whitby, Bournemouth and Scarborough**** complete the top five all-time favourite British seaside resorts. Bournemouth’s beaches are its main draw, while the other two were singled out for their scenery and countryside.

40 per cent of British adults took a trip to the seaside in 2009, but this is set to increase in 2010 – 20 per cent of adults surveyed said they will be more likely to visit the seaside in 2010 than in 2009.

Rochelle Turner, Head of Research for Which? Holiday, says:

“"We know millions of Brits are planning to holiday at home this year, and it's certainly one way to ensure you don't fall victim to volcanic ash.

“Resorts like Brighton have so much to offer, and although nobody can guarantee good weather, you can be confident you'll have a great time at the Great British seaside."
