Brighton Traffic Wardens Hand Out More Parking Tickets Than Any Others

Brighton Traffic Wardens Hand Out More Parking Tickets Than Any Others
Published 26th Sep 2005 by Alex Hammond

Here at Brightonlife we would like to say a big 'well done' to Brighton & Hove's hardworking traffic wardens, who are now officially the busiest in the country, handing out more parking tickets than any outside of London.

Recently released figures show that, in 2003, Brighton?s traffic wardens issued 161,194 penalty notices ? that?s over 10,000 more than Brimingham, a city with over a million inhabitants.

Those hardworking men and women have ensured that Brighton & Hove's streets move freely, and that the town's workers are free to continue their working days. Complaints from local companies that business is hindered by increased parking charges and the removal of parking bays are clearly unfounded, as anyone who works in central Brighton will testify...

The difficulty seems to be the number of people living in central Brighton without parking permits ? there simply aren?t enough to go round and the whole centre of town is permit parking. So what are residents to do? The cost of a single bus journey has gone up 40% in the past 5 years, as has the price of many train journeys.

Oh well, as usual it looks like we?re just going to have to grin and bear it (while remembering to pay any parking fines promptly to avoid increased charges or a visit from the Bailiffs).

Well done guys!
