Brighton Underground - What Do You Think?
Published 13th Oct 2003 by Brighton Underground

As you are may be aware, Brighton Underground is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to promote local music through showcases and live gigs, education and advice on different aspects of the music industry, and in many other ways.

We organise speakers' forums, seminars and workshops, hold regular meetings to bring together all local music businesses and help improve synergy and co-operation. We've created extensive web resources to advise and support individuals and businesses in the music industry, and to help promote regional based music.

Over the last year, we have held over 100 showcase gigs, focus groups, seminars and initiated the LUV magazine. LUV is Brighton's new music magazine, every edition has a compilation CD promoting new musical talent. The magazine provides access to press and promotion to local acts and venues and has offered bands and businesses access to legal advice, and offered advice to bands and artists about starting out in the music industry.

We have liaised with record companies, management, and A&R representatives from different companies to promote regional music, more than 200 of whom have given their support. This has provided work experience for individuals eager to pursue a career in the music industry, built up an extensive web resource, comprising hundreds of pages of advice contributed by experienced professionals active within the industry, and gained the support of many prestigious businesses and individuals within the music industry, including The Musicians Union, PRS, AIM, PAMRA, NME, BBC Radio 1, EMAP, EMI, Sony Music, and Warner Music to name but a few.

We've recently received support from National Government Agency SEEDA, and would like you to help us help Brighton music. Would you like to tell us what you think? On Wednesday the 15th of October, at 7.30pm we are holding an open meeting at the Toad at The Picture House, East Street Brighton, followed by DJ's until late. If you would like to give us any feedback on what we are doing, learn more about our organisation, or voice your opinion about the Brighton music scene, then please come along. Its FREE.
