Cara Dillon

Cara Dillon
Published 24th Aug 2006 by Chris Challis

Bringing together the leading lights and the future stars of UK folk music, Nu-Routes presents CARA DILLON at Komedia on Wednesday 20 September. It?s the first time Komedia?s brand new upstairs performance space will be open since its redevelopment and expansion.

Cara Dillon?s exquisite, crystalline vocals have been winning her acclaim ever since she won the All Ireland Singing Trophy at the age of 14. Whilst she was still a teenager, she went on to sing with Oige and from there, joined the folk supergroup Equation in 1995 which she left to work with another previous member of the band, Sam Lakeman. In 2001, Cara Dillon?s eponymous solo debut was quietly released and proved to be an instant critical success, revealing a remarkably assured and justifiably acclaimed collection of mainly traditional material. The angelic quality of her voice drew comparisons to Eva Cassidy. A shower of accolades followed and the album swiftly placed Dillon amongst the leading lights of the new generation of young traditional artists emerging onto the mainstream.

For Nu-Routes, she is joined once again by Sam Lakeman, as well as John Smith who is steadily rising in the ranks of guitar aficionados having supported the likes of John Martyn, Martin Simpson and John Renbourn. In addition, Lori Watson will be joining the tour - a fine fiddle player and singer whose fresh approach to traditional material combined with her own wonderful compositions have earned her glowing praise.

CARA DILLON visits Komedia on Wednesday 20 September at 8pm. Tickets are ?12/?8 conc. and are available without a booking fee on-line or from the Box Office on 01273 647100.
