Celebrate Diwali In Style With Indian Summer Restaurant
Published 23rd Oct 2006 by Jess
Indian Summer would like you to come and join their annual festival on Sunday 29th October - 69 East Street Brighton.
Diwali, often referred to as The Festival of Lights, is a five-day Hindu festival, which occurs on the fifteenth day of Kartika. The word Diwali literally means “rows of lighted lamps”. During this time, houses are thoroughly cleaned and windows are opened to welcome Laksmi, goddess of wealth, in to people’s homes. Candles and lamps are lit as a greeting to the Goddess, gifts are exchanged and festive vegetarian meals are prepared. Diwali means as much to Hindus as Christmas does to Christians.
The Indian Summer chefs will be creating a traditional Diwali menu consisting of regional Gujarati dishes and Indian sweets alongside the usual delicious Indian menu.
There will also be live music to celebrate as well as traditional Diwali décor and a special quiz to see who knows their Lakshmi from their Kali, their aloo from their gobi and their salwar from their sari. The restaurant will be decorated with rungoli (indian painting on floor) and we expect staff and customers alike to dress up and get truly into the festive spirit!
If the traditional Diwali menu is not to your liking Indian Summer’s usual delicious authentic menu will be available as usual.
The Diwali dinner is available from 6pm onwards at Indian Summer Brighton on Sunday 29th October – early booking advisable.
