Cheeky Guide is Back!

Cheeky Guide is Back!
Published 8th Aug 2006 by Tim Bick

So off went the brand new, fully updated fourth edition of The Cheeky Guide to Brighton to the printers and the very next day it was announced that the Hanbury Ballroom was closing down. And then the Tuc-Tucs arrived. And the Freebutt temporarily shut. And all the club nights that had been at the Pavilion Tavern for the last ten years all suddenly buggered off to the Gloucester.

Still, in this loveably seedy, dirty, overcrowded, treeless and transient home of ours, it's reassuring to know that The Cheeky Guide can be relied on year after year to keep the masses informed on where to go, what to do, how to do it and how to avoid being arrested once you have done it. Now in its seventh glorious year and fourth incarnation, Cheeky still has its finger on the pulse, ready to celebrate all that is wonderful and worthless in the city of Brighton (the latter of course being the Marina, traffic wardens, David Van Day and Insight City News).

This latest edition boasts hundreds of new entries and photographs, a slight style revamp, a cut out and keep pin-up of Brighton eccentric Michael Attree, a Palace Pier snakes and ladders game, chapters for occultists, vegetarians, kids, and sex maniacs, and a cracking photo of the lady who feeds the seagulls.

Specialist features by local writers include Brighton's Best Greasy Spoons by comedy writer Brian Mitchell, Things to Do in Hove When You're Not Dead by comedian Dave Mounfield, cartoonist Fred Pipes tackling Open Houses and Brighton's Weirdest Cycle Lanes, and a Brighton Sex Tour by literary lady of the night Letitcia.

And at only £7.95 for over 300 pages of pure nourishment for the soul, The Cheeky Guide beats all competition hands down. (Oh, apart from the Itchy Guides which are only £3.50, but let's face it they’re a bit crap.)
