Costo Rico are one of the great revelations from the Barcelonan Mestizo scene, famous worldwide for its creativity and musical potential. The band combines Rumba, Reggae, Funk, Samba and Caribbean influences to create an explosive and charming mixture; a perfect way to get a party going so join them at KOMEDIA on Friday 25 August.

Formed in 1999, Costo Rico released their first EP in 2001. Manu Chao, who placed them on his La Colifata sampler, recognized their energetic yet melodic style. It was this early seal of approval from one of the worlds best selling artists propelled the band into fame. Costo Rico have now released two full-length albums; El Patio and Cosas Ricas, both of which have gained enormous respect and fabulous reviews all over Europe. Barcelona legend Martin Fuks worked as producer, and the list of artists that supported Costo Rico while recording, and appearing, as guest musicians on the album is huge.

Led by female vocalist Meri Lopez, and boasting a sprightly horn section, their exuberantly delivered dance music is incredible. Orchestrated with two percussionists, two guitars, a trumpet and a sax, combined with male and female voices, COSTO RICO create songs of pure beauty deeply rooted in Spanish tradition as well as Caribbean sounds. Get ready to burn up the dance floor.
