Cricket World Cup Fantasy Game
Published 2nd Mar 2007 by Jennifer Wallace

This week will see the launch of what promises to be the biggest Fantasy Cricket World Cup game. Brighton based SilentManager will be working in conjunction with STAR India to run ?The Cricket World Cup Fantasy Manager? game which will sit as part of the Official event website ? www.cricketworldcup.com.

The Cricket World Cup is the most important tournament in the cricket calendar, with attendance figures alone boasting over 600,000. The game will be promoted to an audience of over 2 million cricket fans in the 5 key market areas of the world embracing the UK, US, India, South Africa and Australia and already the game has a projected take up figures exceeding 200,000 players.

STAR India will be looking to the game to add content to the Official Cricket World Cup site. The site will also be used to encourage people to make return visits on a more frequent basis and stay for longer. Game players reportedly ?log-on? for an average of 8.27 minutes per visit and with the Cricket World Cup being as intense as it is, taking place over just a month, game players will be keen to know their score after every game.

?It is great to be providing a game on the Official Cricket World Cup site,? explains Jon Trigg, Managing Director of SilentManager, ?and we feel very privileged to be a part of something so global?.

?The game will give The Official Cricket World Cup website site ?stickiness? and will create an online community of cricket fans. Many official sites miss the chance to run fantasy games, so it is great that STAR India recognise this opportunity to interact with fans, whilst the game virally markets the Cricket World Cup and the official site?, added Trigg.

There will be two games; one aimed at the Indian market and another at the rest of the world. You will be able to pick your team from a selection of batsmen, bowlers, wicket keepers and all-rounders from all of the teams competing in the Cricket World Cup and there are cash prizes on offer for winners throughout the stages of the game.

STAR India see the game as a great opportunity to bring together all of the cricket fans of the world. Ajay Vidyasagar, Executive Vice-President, STAR India, said, ?Fantasy games offer sports fans a great opportunity to interact much more closely with their favourite sport, and are of great value to online publishers. We ran a fantasy game on the official website of the ICC Champions Trophy last year as well, and it was a spectacular success. We are happy to partner with SilentManager for the Fantasy Manger game on www.cricketworldcup.com. I?m sure their experience and expertise in the area will be very valuable.?
