Electro-art Collaboration In Brighton
Published 19th Feb 2007 by Dream Sequence
Dream Sequence is a collaborative monthly event which showcases the work of artists and electronic musicians, who work collaboratively together to create innovative audio-visual performances. Not only does Dream Sequence give the artists and musicians a chance to promote and showcase their work and talent, it also provides an arena in which artists can sell their work and musicians can gain exposure and new fans.
February 2007 saw the launch of Dream Sequence, at The Sussex Arts Club in the heart of Brighton. With music from The Deepcut Enquiry, Uberlaser, EJ Norman and 100 Bullets Back, Art by Sara Abbott and Bluelove, a series of fab visual projections and DJ Deliberate til 2am, it was a fantastic night.
The project will initially comprise 5 evenings of showcase events from February to June 2007 - where art will be exhibited and electronic musicians will perform with the same art projected as a backdrop to their music. These showcase events will be
fully collaborative, with the artists creating new
compositions to enhance and complement the music.
The idea behind Dream Sequence originated with Brighton's electro-pop songtress EJ Norman. "I found that electronic artists and bands - as opposed to DJs - were getting sidelined in Brighton's music scene. Performance opportunities were only available as "live electronica" at a club night, and band nights were no-go due to the lack of "traditional" line-up in most electronic bands. I wanted to create an environment in which electro bands could thrive, - something that was just for us and not a club night! - and I also wanted it to be something that looked, as well as sounded, spectacular - which is where the idea for the artist collaboration came from." Dream Sequence is an innovative project, with massive potential for growth and to nurture and promote emerging talent.
