Final Cut reaches fifth birthday during May Festival, and celebrates with most extensive programme to date.

Established during the 2002 Brighton Festival, Final Cut is now the largest short film screening organisation on the South Coast and one of the most successful in the UK.

Since 2003, we have been the core film event in both the fringe and main festivals and this year is no exception with four screening events at different venues around the city showcasing over 80 new films, including many UK and European premieres.

May 2006 also sees the launch of our second best-of DVD (Final Cut Take Two), as well as VJ and DJ sets and live music performances.

Programme details are below, but the fifth anniversary highlights include:

- Stuart Smith (founder of highly successful Laptop Jams night, who has collaborated with Stereolab and John Cale) presents a rare ?netjacking? performance.

- Oddfellows Casino (Brighton?s favourite alternative act and brainchild of ?Cheeky Guide to Brighton? author, David Bramwell) will be performing live to a specially commissioned silent film from local film-maker, Toby Amies

- Special selection of underground short films from New York and Los Angeles
- Screenings of the best new shorts from local film-makers, plus new ?Trailer Trash? previews

Stuart Smith is available for interview, as is Final Cut founder Richard Harris, an award-winning filmmaker with his own production company (Big Bamboo), who runs Final Cut as a labour of love in order that low budget filmmakers have a place to show their work.
