Fire - Photographs By Marcus Taylor

Fire - Photographs By Marcus Taylor
Published 14th Oct 2005 by Brightonlife Culture Dept.

Local photographer Marcus Taylor will be exhibiting his extrodianary work at the Thebes Gallery in Lewes over the firework period. The stunning pictures are directly inspired by some earlier experiments with artifically-lit trees ("Arbor Lights"), combined with a strong interest in departing from the "standard firework shot" (merged multiple bursts, multiple colours, exhausted highlight detail, and a wide-angle viewpoint). By tuning-in to particular parts of the sky, and by using particular camera techniques and movements a whole new, highly-detailed world becomes available.

Marcus Taylor spent 6 years teaching English in schools and universities in France and Italy. He was trained in photography by friend and photography-lecturer Andrew Wing and is currently training to be a professional actor at the Academy of Creative Training, Brighton.

The photographs in this series were shot with medium-format film cameras (Hasselblad 501CM and Mamiya 7) to ensure maximum preservation of highlight detail and resolution. Many of the pictures were captured at Lewes in November 2004 but the stock comes from displays all over Sussex over the last year.

'Fire' is at the Thebes Gallery, Lewes, from Tues 25th October to Tues 8th November. For more info contact the gallery on 01273 484497.
