Free Gigs At The Albert
Published 17th Jan 2007 by Kairen Kemp
On Sunday 25th February The South Live Albert Sessions present sets from Brighton’s The Reveals and Echobeat from Southampton. Since March 2006, South Live and Concorde2 have teamed up to bring you a monthly night for unsigned bands These free gigs take place monthly at The Albert on Trafalgar Street which fittingly sports a building-sized portrait of the patron Saint of unsigned bands, John Peel.
The Reveals are band are on a mission, which is as follows: to get the music to as many people as possible "by playing as many gigs as possible, whilst writing as many songs as possible. With no bullshit and no pretence The Reveals write good honest songs set against an electrifying backdrop. Following in the footsteps of bands like The Who, The Jam and Oasis the soundscape created has a distinct English quality anchored by a raw, unique vocal."
Echobeat are a short, sharp, loud and proud four piece. Frontman Lee’s job as a club DJ means the group always has one eye (and ear) on the dance floor. Welding together indie, rock and dance Echobeat are both heavier then their indie counterparts, while managing to steer clear of the skuzzy rock clichés. According to Beatnik Magazine “Echobeat blast through songs with the sort of confidence that can only be gained from knowing there’s more where that came from.”
