Funkymezcla - World Beats And Funky Treats

Funkymezcla - World Beats And Funky Treats
Published 15th Mar 2006 by Graham Laurence

Three DJs - Slap Ed, Robin D Rich and CDJ Porno Pierre - play World Beats and Funky Treats. In fact anything to get you on the dancefloor. We've clocked up a few cracking nights at The Prince Albert already. Our policy is to play uplifting, generally upbeat music without conforming to a specific style. This takes a few people by surprise but the majority are well up for it.

7TH April 2006, 7pm-12.30am, Upstairs @ The Prince Albert, Trafalgar Street
(and the first Friday of every month)

'Funky' need not mean pure funk, rather any music that swings or has a funky feel. 'Mezcla' is the Spanish word for 'mix.' So funk, latin and flamenco may be on the playlist, but also expect soul, jazz, hiphop, eastern european, african, reggae, ska and more. Dancing is encouraged but if you prefer to prop up the bar or talk to friends with the music as a backdrop, that's ok too.

The night kicks off at 7pm as far as music is concerned but the venue itself is open before that so pop in straight from work or drop by later on if you want. If you fancy an early night, make us your club night. If you're a nightime person then make us your pre-club warmup. But give us a try. It's free and drinks are at pub prices so what have you got to lose? You never know, you might like it!

This Friday sees the next instalment of 'World Beats and Funky Treats' from FunkyMezcla at The Prince Albert in Trafalgar Street, Brighton. The only difference this time around compared to our normal club night is that we will be playing the downstairs bars. This means we won't have a dedicated dance area but we will still play our usual mix of lively music and we appreciate the opportunity of reaching a wider audience. So if you were thinking of coming along, we would still like to see you. If you like what we play then come back on Friday 5th May for our usual format upstairs, where you can take to the dance floor if the mood takes you!
