G Casino Brighton Calls Upon Local Design Talent To Create Casino Art
Published 6th Apr 2010 by Rebecca Hunt

To celebrate the official launch of the new G Casino Brighton next month, local artists are being offered the chance to design and create a bespoke piece of casino-inspired art, made exclusively from limited edition poker chips. The competition has been devised to make the most of the creative arts scene in Brighton and appeal to the wide range of talented street artists within the town.

Local designers, artists, and sculptors will be challenged to design a one-off piece of art that encapsulates the character of the new venue. Using only the specially created poker chips and imagination, all entrants must initially submit a hand-drawn design to the casino by 30th April, whereby shortlisted entries will then be picked by our expert Panel. The judges include arts journalist Nick Mosley from the Brighton Visitor, innovative lifecast-sculptor Jamie McCartney and a representative from Phoenix Brighton, the largest artists’ studios and gallery in the south east. The final three chosen designs will then be showcased on the official G Casino Brighton Facebook page. Fans of the casino can then vote for their favourite design and the winning entry will win the opportunity to create their masterpiece.

The winning piece of art will be brought to life and showcased at an exclusive event held at the casino later in the spring and will be auctioned off for charity. 50% of the proceeds raised will be donated to G Casinos nominated charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care, and the remaining amount will go to the artist. All funds raised will help Marie Curie Nurses care for terminally ill people in their own homes at the end of their lives. The winner will also get the chance to use the exclusive event to showcase their designs and bring along other works to sell on the night.

Sue Morralee, General Manager of the G Casino Brighton said: “We’re really excited about involving and essentially nurturing the local design talent in Brighton and look forward to showcasing such an exciting and unusual piece of art at the casino in the near future. We’re delighted to have re-branded the former Grosvenor Casino into one of the new generation of stylish, contemporary G Casinos. This is the eleventh G Casino in the UK. The G Casino brand is all about giving people a great alternative for a night out and the new Brighton casino does just that.”
