How Things Work - A Collection Of Fantastic Bands Bring Everything From Folk To Bottleneck Blues To Brighton

How Things Work - A Collection Of Fantastic Bands Bring Everything From Folk To Bottleneck Blues To Brighton
Published 29th Jun 2010 by Matt Costello

A collection of local and national bands bring their varying musical styles to Komedia for an evening ranging from folk to bottleneck blues -
Scenic Routes are a Brighton six-piece. Juggling musical styles such as Folk, Jazz, Blues and Country, their original compositions are at once unique, contemporary and rich with the past. Waves of the accordion blend with sensual clarinet lines, over deep double bass, held together with effortlessly cool drums, all giving the troubadour the perfect framework for his timeless song.

Rome Pays Off is the new project from Rothko founder members, Mark Beazley and Crawford Blair. Conjuring darkly gentle, filmic instrumentals, their work is melodic and unsettling. Their debut album, 'There's No Simple Explanation' will be released on Trace Recordings in September 2010.
s.t. wants to undo the song, to force it apart and look through the cracks to find what is there. These are songs of longing, laughing and experiment, all wrapped in the simplest of forms, driven by the starkest necessity.

Lou Glandfield has been a mainstay of the UK's music scene for many years. A maestro of bottleneck blues, among most other folk styles, he has appeared in too many places and guises to name them all - Radio 4's Loose Ends and Home Truths being two of them - and is also a published poet, composer, music teacher, polyglot and raconteur. Buy him a drink and do your best to find an obscure word he doesn't know!

How Things Work visits Komedia Brighton on Friday 2nd July at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 / £4 and are only available on the door on the night.
