Hundreds Back Campaign For Ice Rink In Brighton

Hundreds of people have joined a facebook campaign to get an ice rink in Brighton. In the short time since the page was created 345 people, including a star from holiday on ice have joined the campaign entitled 'Bring back Sussex ice rink', and lots more people are joining every day. 496 people have joined a similar campaign entitled 'ice rink for Brighton'.

Many people have posted comments on the page. Several ice-hockey players and figure skaters have said they desperately need somewhere closer to home. Since the Sussex ice rink closed in 2003 it has been very sadly missed by many people and the eagerly awaited 'black rock' project seems to have been shelved in the hope that people will forget it. Clearly an ice rink is needed as 345 people have proved!

Leading British Ice liesure providers 'planet ice' have commented on how the popularity of skating has grown due to T.V shows such as 'dancing on ice' and crazes such as 'Xtreme ice skating'(a new sport that takes ice skating to a new level by introducing urban in-line skating techniques). Most of the skating sessions at the Brighton centre rink were sold out again this year, this is further proof that the people of Brighton love to skate and need to have an ice rink back in their city.
