I Leave My Mark
Published 17th May 2011 by Debbie Brown

i leave my mark are inviting the people of Sussex to leave their fingerprint and donate £1 in support of local children’s charities. 902 local people have left their fingerprint so far raising £1855 in the Fringe Festival event which runs every weekend in May from a beach hut on Hove seafront.

This weekend saw some of the i leave my mark team arriving in style on Hove Seafront in a power blue convertible stretch mini from the London to Brighton Mini Run. The mini, kindly donated to I leave my mark by Simon Ross of www.aminiwedding.co.uk, is one of many donations made by local businesses to the campaign which has been created entirely by volunteers and local businesses so that every penny donated goes directly to charity.

The mini’s arrival was greeted by the team of volunteers (see pic) and the campaigns photographer Jon Silver, who has also given his time for free.

Deborah Brown, founder of i leave my mark says, “It’s inspiring and touching to see so many local people clearly driven to make a difference to the lives of children in our community, and the support of so many businesses and volunteers has been incredible. We have raised almost two thousand pounds, proof that by giving just a little we can create something big together”

The volunteers have been joined each weekend by volunteers from Safety Net, Rockinghorse, NSPCC and Chesnut Tree House, four of the six supported charites. Juliette MacPherson, Community Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House, who ran children’s activities at the beach hut on Sunday, says: “A really big thank you to all the i leave my mark volunteer team and people that have donated for their fantastic support for Chestnut Tree House the only children’s hospice in Sussex. Not only have they helped raise vital funds but have also strengthened our awareness in the area. For further information about getting involved please contact our website www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk”

Next week see’s children’s TV presenter Dave Benson Phillips leave his mark on Saturday at 3.30, with more celebrities to leave theirs over the course of the festival. There is also a kids bootcamp with ‘bfit kids’ at 9.45 on Hove lawns.

The beach hut installation will run for the next two weekends for the Brighton Fringe Festival, from 11.00-5.00 at a beach hut between First and Second Avenue in on Hove seafront. The finished art made of the finger prints will be displayed on 29th May at The Basement, Kensington Street, Brighton.

The campaign has raised a total of £5183 over 4 events since its launch event on Boxing Day.
