Juicy Breaks Travel Book of the Week

Mention Brighton and certain images spring to mind - Palace Pier, The Pavilion and white stucco seafront houses. The cover of Juicy Breaks though, shows a kitesurfer riding a cresting wave. It is an eloquent calling card for a new series of guidebooks.

Juicy Breaks are independently researched - they have sold advertising space but haven't traded entry in the guide for free meals or nights in hotels. Aimed at "tourists with style", the first in the series is packed with information on where to eat, sleep, drink ,shop, watch and even how to emulate that kitesurfer.

Reviews are lively, witty and to the point. If there's a problem, it lies with the coverage; if you are here for the weekend,do you really want to wade through 48 pub entries to find the one for you? Juicy's motto is "squeezing the best out of the UK's sexiest cities". A little more squeezing would help. Overall though, this series is a welcome addititon at a time when many of us are taking short breaks at home. Guides to Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle and Oxford follow soon.
