KELLY KNOX TAKES TO THE CATWALK AT BRIGHTON FASHION WEEK
Published 17th Mar 2010 by Jo Reeder
Organisers of Brighton Fashion Week are pleased to announce that Kelly Knox, the winner of BBC3’s Britain’s Missing Top Model, will take to the catwalk in the Couture Show taking place during the Week, which runs from 9th to 13th June. Kelly competed against eight other disabled women in the reality TV show to win a coveted contract with a top modelling agency. She was also shot by Rankin in a groundbreaking shoot for Marie Claire magazine that challenged the perceptions of beauty and what makes a good model.
Now in its sixth year, Brighton Fashion Week is the South’s leading fashion event and has won plaudits in the past from fashion heavyweights such as Grazia, Vogue and The Independent. This year promises to be the year for Brighton Fashion Week, with bigger shows, better headline names and, of course, oodles of glamour.
For those in the know, Brighton has long been seen as one of the top destinations outside of London. Dubbed London-by-the-Sea by many commentators, visitors flock to the famous seaside resort, drawn by its laid-back, cosmopolitan atmosphere, great shopping and bustling nightlife. So it’s fitting that Brighton will be taken over once again by Brighton Fashion Weekend, transforming venues across the city into stylish temples of fashion.
There will be the legendary Brighton Frocks catwalk show, great parties and a fashion emporium showcasing up and coming designers, where forward-thinking fashionistas can shop ’til they drop. Venues are still being finalised, but organisers have their sights set on the Corn Exchange, the Clarence Suite at the Brighton Hilton Metroplole Hotel and the historic St Michael’s Church in the centre of the city, to name a few. There will also be live fashion installations, free workshops and talks, competitions, shopping discounts and much more. If you’re interested in fashion, Brighton Fashion Week is for you.
For catwalk addicts there will be a special VIP launch show and Couture Show, as well as a Graduate Show to find the UK’s top emerging talent. Fashion designer and make-up artist Jez Eaton will celebrate the UK premier of her critically acclaimed Trashion Show. Already a roaring success across Europe, The Trashion Show is a fast paced, thrilling runway show featuring a stylish, highly unusual collection of utterly ingenious recycled couture. Jez has turned mundane, everyday objects into extraordinary things of beauty and set them in scene with imagination and daring. This is definitely one show not to be missed.
Once again, in the run up to the event, organisers will be trawling the streets in and around Brighton, scouting for local talent to appear in the catwalk shows. After last year’s model auditions, two of the models selected to take part in the Brighton Frocks catwalk show by the show’s organiser, Liz Bishop, went on to be signed by Storm modelling agency.
Talking about 2010’s Brighton Fashion Week, Liz says, “We’ve been on an incredible journey since launching six years ago. Every year the event has grown and grown, and this year we’re hoping to attract big name sponsors who can ensure that we can keep staging the innovative catwalk shows and fashion-related events that we are renowned for,” she says.
“Brighton Fashion Week 2010 will be bigger, better and brighter, attracting designers and visitors from all over the UK and beyond,” she continues. “Brighton is the perfect place to stage such an event as it’s vibrant, edgy and not afraid to be a bit different, and the week
will definitely reflect this.”
