Kemptown Artists Encorage Public To Express Themselves

Kemptown Artists Encorage Public To Express Themselves
Published 15th Apr 2009 by Hizze Fletcher

Artists Romany Mark Bruce and Hizze Fletcher will be exhibiting new work at the renowned Kemptown open house art space ‘No Back Door’ during the Brighton Festival in May 2009. Both Brighton-based artists have a strong commitment to charity fundraising and will be donating 10% of sales to Sussex Beacon, a care home for people living with HIV.

Within the exhibition there will be an additional display featuring an update on the progress of Romany Mark Bruce’s forthcoming Aids Memorial. This will include drawings, photos and video footage of the sculpture, which is in the final stages of production. Downstairs an interactive workshop will give the public a chance to express themselves and sculpt miniature heads out of clay. The finished pieces completed over the month will form part of the show, highlighting how art is – and should be - accessible to all.

Romany Mark Bruce says: “The Aids Memorial has received great support from across the community and this will be an opportunity to see how it has progressed from the first drawings to the foundry"

Hizze Fletcher says: “I’m very excited to be exhibiting in such an established space. I have great respect for Romany’s art and the contrast in our styles will work well together.”

No Back Door is at 30 George Street, Kemptown, Brighton BN2 1RH. It will be open every Saturday and Sunday in May, from 11am to 6pm
