Keren Ann at The Komedia

Keren Ann at The Komedia
Published 2nd Jun 2008 by Chris

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Keren Ann heads to Komedia in June for what promises to be an incredible and hypnotic gig to support her eponymous fifth album, Keren Ann. Often favourably compared to Françoise Hardy, Nico, the works of Gainsbourg, Mazzy Star, Rufus Wainright and Suzanne Vega, Keren Ann is a truly special and engaging artist, one whose work evolves and grows, often with every listen.

Keren Ann is the follow up to 2004’s Nolita. Where Nolita was a mixture of French and English language compositions reflecting Keren Ann’s cosmopolitan background (Israeli-born of Dutch and Russian heritage, currently residing in New York and Paris), Keren Ann is sung purely in English. The arrangements and productions are ripe with subtle surprises, imbued with an organic character that belies the attention with which she refined the album. The album was produced by Keren Ann, mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Alanis Morissette), and mastered by Bob Ludwig.

"Keren Ann reveals the assurance of a fully developed artist…” - Time Out, New York

Propelled by handclaps, harmonica, and a mix of strings, all rolling beneath circling guitar riffs and blissful vocals her live gigs are astounding, and reveal yet further steps in her ever-evolving artistry.

KEREN ANN visits Komedia on Wednesday 18 June at 8.30pm. Tickets are £12 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 01273 647100 (booking fees apply).
