Komedia Wins Best Comedy Venue In The South And Stephen Grant Wins Best Compere

Komedia got the double whammy at the Chortle Awards last night scooping the top spot for Best Venue in the South whilst Krater Comedy Club’s Stephen Grant beat a host of top comics to win Best Compere.

Komedia are over the moon to regain the crown of Best Venue in the South, which they’ve now won an unprecedented 9 times. With the Krater Comedy Club running 5 times a week from Thursday to Sunday and 43% of audiences travelling from outside of Brighton, it goes to show how top quality comedy is still a favoured night out for people far and wide.

Krater Comedy Club co-founder and resident compere, Stephen Grant is also the proud owner the Best Compere award, proving that he’s still top of his game. Arriving at Dubai airport on route to Singapore where he’ll be performing his stand up, Stephen tweeted his great news saying “I've won BEST COMPERE at the Chortle Awards! I would like to dedicate this award to everyone who can correctly spell compere.”

The Chortle Awards are now in their tenth year and are voted by visitors to the UK’s leading comedy website Chortle.co.uk. More than 15,000 votes were polled on a shortlist drawn up by a panel of leading comedy critics.
Chortle editor Steve Bennett said: ‘Fuelled by the boom in stand-up on TV, live comedy has never been in a healthier state, with people looking for a laugh amid the economic gloom.
