Krater Tag Comedy
Published 29th Jun 2010 by Matt Costello
Sit back and strap in for the comedy ride of your life – Tag Comedy is here and taking no prisoners. Join four top comedians – all headliners from the UK comedy circuit – as they leave their comfort zone and are dropped into a comedy No-Mans-Land where survival of the funniest is paramount. With brand new topics coming thick and fast from the audience, set-lists and running orders are abandoned as comedians must think on their feet to keep the gags coming – who will ‘tag out’ first? Revolutionising the concept of stand-up comedy, Tag Comedy is the brightest, most inventive, fast-paced new format where anything can happen… and normally does! July’s show sees Sarah Millican, Ben Norris, Stephen Grant and more take to the stage.
“A constant barrage of quality comedy” – ThreeWeeks
For the past few years, Keith Farnan has toured internationally as a comedian, working in some of the best comedy clubs in the world, and from the Boston International Comedy Festival, to the “Best of the Irish” shows at the Edinburgh Festival. When in Ireland, he is a resident host at the Laughter Lounge in Dublin. He filmed the stand up show, “One Night Stand” for BBC television. His 2008 Edinburgh show, Cruel and Unusual, which is a comedy show against the Death Penalty in America was received with tremendous critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival “Seriously funny. You will be moved to laughter and provoked to think. A unique and inspiring show” (Time Out) - and was part of the Royal Festival Halls Xmas Festival in London as well as being featured on BBC Radio 4. Whilst his 2009 show No Blacks, No Jews, No Dogs, No Irish. All welcome was one of the most successful hits of the Fringe and a complete sell-out.
Zoe Lyons came to stand up comedy out of desperation and after many years of being a committed under achiever. In 2003 Zoe did a five minute open spot at a new act night. She got the comedy bug and hasn't looked back since, winning the national Funny Women competition and got to the final of So, You Think Your Funny? In 2004. She now gigs regularly all over the country and has resident gigs in both Brighton and London. She also demonstrated to the nation her ability to laugh in the face of adversity, as a contestant on ITV's 'Survivor!' where she ate a rat and lived to tell the tale (and no, rat does not taste like chicken), has appeared on BBC’s Mock The Week, and won the ‘Funniest Joke of the Festival’ Award in 2008.
Markus Birdman is an up and coming comic based in London. After winning the Lewisham Comedy Festival Open Mic 2001 competition, as well as becoming a finalist in Jongleur's New Act 2000, Leicester Comedy Festival New Act 2001, he took his comedy to Edinburgh and became a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards, later taking his show to the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and performing at the Sydney Comedy Store. Back in the UK he continues to work the circuit, winning over audiences by being "uniquely talented, demonstrates just how it's done." (The Evening Standard)
According to Time Out, “Stephen Grant is [...] Britain’s best comedy compère” and it's not hard to see why! A cult figure in Brighton thanks to his co-creation of the Krater Comedy Club at Komedia, he won the 2008 Chortle Award for ‘Best Compere’, has hosted his own radio show for BBC Southern Countries, has written for BBC Radio 1, acts as a warm-up comedian for QI and other TV shows, and has written and performed shows at Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the past decade. With over 1000 people attending the Krater Comedy Club every weekend throughout the year, it’s no surprise that Stephen became the most seen performer in Brighton in 2006 across all disciplines (theatre, music, cabaret), having played to over 40,000 punters at Komedia alone.
Krater Tag Comedy visits Komedia Brighton on Thursday 1 July at 8.00pm. Tickets are £8.50/£6.50 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
