Lagoon Watersports To Get People In The Water And Raising Money For Charity

Lagoon Watersports To Get People In The Water And Raising Money For Charity
By Rebecca Richardson 29th Apr 2008

The inaugural National Windsurfing Week takes place this year between the 3rd and 11th of May and Lagoon Watersports is helping to celebrate it by holding ‘taster lessons’ for windsurfing throughout the week at it’s Hove Lagoon centre. National Windsurfing Week has the aim of introducing people to the sport of windsurfing and Lagoon Watersports are hoping to do this by offering people the opportunity to try it by offering a 90 minute session for just £5 with £2.50 going to the charity Sail 4 Cancer.

In order to try and get as many people involved as possible, Lagoon Watersports are holding taster lessons at lunchtimes and after work, as well as during the weekend. No experience is needed, and all specialised equipment, plus full tuition is provided. The sessions are open to adults and children.

Lagoon Watersports are also keen to encourage windsurfers to introduce their friends and family to the sport by bringing them along to the event or the taster sessions. Intermediate or experienced windsurfers can also sign up to some classes on Sunday 11th May to help improve skills such as ‘how to use footstraps’ and ‘how to jump’

Harvey Dawkins, managing director and founding partner of Lagoon Watersports, described being bitten by the windsurfing bug: “Everything changed, no longer could life be planned and everything now revolved around the weather forecast. Twenty years later, countless appointments missed or late for because it was windy, a business and a life style built for one purpose, to go windsurfing”.

Cathy Jenkins from Sail 4 Cancer said: ”We were delighted to be approached by Lagoon Watersports with their wonderful ideas to raise much needed funds for the charity and we are extremely grateful for their very kind support. We firmly believe that getting out onto the water, whether to raise funds or as a respite from illness, gives everyone an amazing boost. We certainly see this with the cancer patients and their families who we take sailing.”

Places on the windsurfing ‘taster lessons’ are limited, so to book yours call 01273 42 48 42 today. If you want to sign up for the intermediate/experienced lessons then also give Lagoon Watersports a call or visit www.lagoon.co.uk

In addition to raising funds for cancer treatment and research Sail 4 Cancer aims to improve the quality of life for those living with cancer. This is achieved mainly through the provision of sailing opportunities for cancer patients, their families and those who have been recently bereaved through cancer. In 2007 Sail 4 Cancer provided over 1,000 sailing days for people living with cancer.
