Liz Carr brings her 'one the edge and fabulously black' humour to Brighton with 'It Hasn't Happened Yet' @ KOMEDIA - 27/6/2010
Published 3rd Jun 2010 by Matt Costello
It Hasn’t Happened Yet follows the journey of up-and-coming comedian Alex Saunders as she navigates her way through the minefields of disability and comedy, with wheelchair and alter-ego Liz Carr in tow.
Liz Carr began her comedy career in Liverpool in 2001; with the co-founding, writing and performing in disabled women’s comedy sketch group Nasty Girls. Prolific in devising and writing, they gigged all over the UK and took their many shows to Edinburgh.
"Liz Carr's humour is right on the edge and fabulously black.” - The Scotsman
Her debut in stand-up was in the 2005 show, Abnormally Funny People where she performed alongside disabled comedians Tanyalee Davis, Simon Minty, Steve Day, Chris McCausland and the abnormally normal Steve Best. The show premiered in London at Soho Theatre before a month run at the Edinburgh Fringe. SKY TV funded and filmed the show for a documentary shown on Sky.
Carr was a finalist in the 2006 Funny Women competition, received a special commendation in the Laughing Horse New Act competition 2007 and was runner up in the 2007 Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, performing at their Edinburgh Fringe showcase, Four On The Floor.
"Feisty wheelchair user Liz Carr packs a considerable comic punch." - Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard
Since then her stand-up career has grown, with performances at The Comedy Store, The Hackney Empire, Soho Theatre, Liverpool and Leicester Comedy Festivals in the past few years, she now returns to Brighton. Having previously performed at both Comic Boom and Krater, Carr heads back to Komedia with her critically acclaimed solo show that Time Out calls “Supremely funny, twisted and edgy... A darkly comic mix of theatre and stand-up”. Plunging chair-first into territory where few dare to go, Carr challenges conventional perceptions about comedy, ambition, insecurity, fame and even fish!
Liz Carr: It Hasn’t Happened Yet visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 27th June at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 / £10 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
