Local Cancer Sufferer Launches Charity Ball

Local Cancer Sufferer Launches Charity Ball
Published 1st Sep 2008 by Laura Cook

Pink & Purple Ball – Saturday 18th October 2008 set to raise £30,000 for Kate’s Trust.  Local mum of two Charlotte Hammond, 40, who is fighting secondary cancer, has joined forces with registered Sussex cancer charity, Kate’s Trust, to launch the second ‘Pink & Purple Ball’, with the aim of raising more than £30,000 to improve the service provided to other sufferers in Sussex.

Each year more than 284,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and the rate is increasing so the need for local support is greater than ever. Charlotte originally conceived the Pink & Purple Ball in 2003 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35. Now undergoing chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden after being diagnosed with secondary cancer in the liver, Charlotte along with staff and friends of local healthcare agency Pegasus PR, aim to help Kate’s Trust fund a variety of services that make a difference to local cancer sufferers and families on their ‘cancer journey’.

The Pink & Purple Ball is set to take place at the De Vere Grand Hotel in Brighton from 7pm on Saturday 18th October 2008. In keeping with the theme, guests are invited to wear something pink or purple and will be treated to a gala dinner dance and live entertainment. Ticket sales and a fundraising auction hosted by a local celebrity yet to be confirmed will all go towards meeting the £30,000 target.

Tickets are priced at £70 each or £650 for a table of 10 and can be purchased via the Pink & Purple Ball hotline on 01903 821550 or email pinkandpurpleball@pegasuspr.co.uk.

Charlotte says: “A growing incidence of cancer means more pressure on local authorities to provide services for Sussex cancer sufferers. That’s why we’re urging the community to buy tickets to the Pink & Purple Ball. Not only does it promise to be a fun night out for friends and family but the funds we raise will go towards improving the support that local cancer sufferers and their families need to fight the disease and cope with the emotional strain they will experience along the way.”

Simon Hackett, Director of Kate’s Trust says: “Almost everyone has been touched by cancer, either by witnessing the strength that comes from beating the disease or by losing someone close to them. Kate’s Trust is honoured to be working with the Pink & Purple Ball and we’re calling upon local companies to sponsor sections of the event whilst donating prizes for our celebrity-hosted auction to ensure we maximise the money raised for Sussex cancer sufferers.”

Local companies who would like to sponsor sections of the event or to contribute a prize to the celebrity-hosted auction and raffle should contact David Greenwood at Pegasus PR on 01903 821550.
