Komedia is delighted to welcome back Long Nose Puppets and their well-loved Shoe Baby this Christmas. The delightful show will begin on Saturday 18 December in the intimate Komedia Studio and will run through to New Years Eve. Shoe Baby is a magical puppet show that tells the tale of a baby who takes to the sea, the air, the zoo all in a shoe! This fantastical sing-a-long adventure is suitable for anyone between one and one hundred and was a sell-out at the venue in 2008… we’re certain it will be another hit in 2011.

“It was not only the most imaginative but the most philosophical piece of theatre I’d seen in ages.” Richard Dyball, The Times

Shoe Baby was created by Long Nose Puppets theatre company set up by Polly Dunbar, who is an author/illustrator, and Katherine Morton, a puppeteer/illustrator. Katherine and Polly met at Brighton University where they studied illustration and often worked together creating characters and stories. They make all the puppets themselves out of anything and everything: latex, wood, found objects and all things sparkly! The company are now well known for their wonderful theatre and have also toured extensively with their other shows Flyaway Katie and Penguin, whilst Shoe Baby was invited to Number 11 Downing Street as part of Gordon Brown’s annual children’s Christmas party!

Shoe Baby is adapted from the book written by well-known author Joyce Dunbar (author of Mouse and Mole… and she’s Polly’s mum!), and is published by Walker Books. The music is written by talented musician Tom Gray, of the award winning band Gomez.

“Praise be then for the wonderful Shoe Baby puppet show…The music, by Tom Gray of Gomez, was absolutely fantastic and the sets and puppeteering spot on”. The Guardian
