Martin Harley
Published 2nd Aug 2006 by Chris Challis
Martin Harley's original sound draws on influences from old time blues and folk to classic rock. Martin has played alongside blues legend Ben Andrews and soul marvel Geno Washington as well as featuring on sessions with Sinead O?Connor and Natacha Atlas. Complete with his backing band, Martin brings his energetic, soulful and mesmerising blues/folk/roots sound to Komedia on Wednesday 23 August.
"Fusing inspired blues, jazz and rock into their sound, this hard-touring trio are revealing themselves as shining talents in the British acoustic scene. Definatley ones to watch."
Guitarist Magazine
Martin has received critical acclaim from a wealth of commentators. His extraordinary guitar work and exquisite songwriting have touched audiences across the country. In October 2005, Martin broke the world record for The Worlds Highest Gig when he joined international musicians in a trek to camp five on Mount Everest. The gig was a great success, and the money raised went to homeless children in Nepal.
Together with bass player Adam Wolters and percussionist Pete Swatton, Martin showcases a truly unique style in a liberating fusion of skiffleesque folk, blues, roots and alt country. Their original sound blends three part harmonies over a backdrop of stunning slide and finger style guitar, homemade acoustic bass and brush drums.
MARTIN HARLEY BAND visit Komedia on Wednesday 23 August at 8.30pm. Tickets are ?7/?6 conc.
