Cabaret News
Miss Hope Springs @ The Brunswick
Published 26th Mar 2010 by Miss Hope Springs/Ty Jeffries
In a show that has more glamour than Liza Minnelli could high-kick a leg at, ex Las Vegas showgirl, Miss Hope Springs, recounts her colourful past and many loves in a brand new, witty and touching lounge-act style cabaret performance. With her jaw-dropping and often candid repartee, we follow Hope's journey from the Ritz to the pits, as she plays the piano and sings her original sophisticated repertoire of belting show stoppers and bittersweet torch songs.
The show is written, conceived and performed by acclaimed alternative drag artist, Ty Jeffries, who, in his chosen interface Miss Hope Springs, has made an indelible name for himself on Britain’s alternative cabaret scene. One time Jean Paul Gaultier model Ty ( classically trained at the prestigious Purcell School of Music) draws much of the inspiration for his creative work from his childhood spent living with his family in Hollywood (his father was the renowned actor, screenwriter and film director the late Lionel Jeffries, who will always be remembered for his role as Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) Ty still vividly recalls the time he had dinner with Frank Sinatra and fell asleep in the soup…he was only 6 years old at the time.
In Ty’s own words, “Yes, I spent some of my childhood years living in TInseltown and I’m very influenced by the' golden age' of Hollywood. The stars of the time, their stories, their sexual ambiguity and their mystique fascinate me. This is what I am drawn to, and I tend to revisit these themes in my song writing, stage performances, photography and videos.”
* The Beverley Sisters " Miss Hope Springs... an outstanding talent! "
* Time Out “ Wonderful drag star Miss Hope Springs can REALLY sing. Far too talented…"
* The Independent “The world had better brace itself for the voice, the legs and the devastating one liners of Miss Hope Springs... whose belting show stoppers and heavy lidded torch songs sound like 50's originals..."
* Evening Standard Magazine " I'm off to see Ty Jeffries' extraordinary one man show….”
