Morgan Sindall Office Takes Up Charity Challenge
Published 8th Feb 2012 by Jessica Lambert
TO HONOUR MUCH-LOVED COLLEAGUE
Colleagues of a popular Brighton construction manager, who passed away after being diagnosed with cancer, have honoured his memory by raising more than £10,000 for charity.
Marc Chittick, who worked for the Brighton-based office of leading construction and infrastructure company, Morgan Sindall, died in November 2010, after losing a hard-fought battle with the disease.
The popular builder was remembered by his colleagues during a special charity event called the Chittick Challenge, which saw the team raise £10,200 for Cancer Research UK.
Marc’s co-workers joined together to organise a quiz, auction and raffle night to raise funds for the charity.
Supported by Marc’s friends, local business people and subcontractors, the event at The Engineer pub on Argyle Road in Brighton was a unanimous success and a fitting tribute to a much-loved workmate and friend.
Julien Jones, area director at Morgan Sindall says: “Sadly, lots of us are affected by cancer in some way or another. It hit us hard when we lost Marc, who was a dear friend and colleague and a great asset to our business.
“We wanted to honour Marc by hosting a quiz named after him to try and raise both awareness and money to support this cause.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by all the support we received on the night and in the build up to the event. It was such an important charity for the Brighton office to raise money for and we are very grateful for the tremendous efforts the team put in to making the night such a huge success.”
Phil Reeves, the landlord of The Engineer, generously contributed to the event, by donating free use of the pub’s karaoke machine and digital quiz for the event, and providing a delicious free buffet on the night.
Benita Wright, Senior Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK in East Sussex says: “We’re
so proud of all the Morgan Sindall team who have done an amazing job to raise such a fantastic amount for charity.
“This is a wonderful way to choose to remember someone, and Marc Chittick obviously held a very special place in the hearts of so many people, so this was definitely a fitting tribute to him. We are looking forward to working with Morgan Sindall on future projects in the area.”
