Moviebar At The Cornerstone

Moviebar At The Cornerstone
Published 22nd Jan 2007 by Charlie Bowden

MOVIEBAR is the new monthly event for aspiring and professional filmmakers in Brighton and Hove. Whether you're a producer, director, actor, screenwriter, editor, composer, sound designer, DOP, casting agents, technician, animator, gaffer or student, you're welcome at MOVIEBAR.

Whatever you're level of experience, or even if you're just dipping your toes in the movie world, MOVIEBAR has been established to help you meet like-minded people, learn from the experts and progress your career in filmmaking to the next level.

MOVIEBAR has been set up by Charlie Bowden (Independent Film and TV Producer) and Chris Cook (Director and Brighton Film School Lecturer) following their recent success with the release of the feature film The Penalty King.

Charlie says, After we finally completed The Penalty King after six years, we realised that most of the movie had made it to the big screen simply because people wanted to get involved and support the whole process. And after my trip to the Cannes Film Festival, I was staggered by the number of talented filmmakers I met over there who were from Brighton. It makes sense for us all to get together and help each other when we hit the inevitable roadblocks on the way to making a movie. I..ve realised that the best way to speed up the process and get things moving for everybody is simply to get us all together and share our thoughts, experience and advice. So everyone with an idea in their head can benefit, or even those just wanting to gain some experience by getting involved on any level. And even those who just want to pop along to talk shop are welcome.

Chris says 'There are a lot of talented people out there who just need a bit of help. Whether it's knowing where to get their hands on the money, or even how to set up a shot if we all get together and talk about it, these problems go away. It's also about having a network of people you can turn to. So when you do get the green light and you desperately need a lighting guru, you know where you can get one."

MOVIEBAR will be held on the first Monday of every month at The Cornerstone Pub, 2-6 Elm Grove, Brighton, East Sussex, BN2 3DD. The first event will be on Feb 5th from 7:00pm. There will be drink promotions and a full bar menu available.

MOVIEBAR also welcomes any short films that people want to bring along and show off. The first event will cover off how you can submit short films to be shown and discussed at MOVIEBAR, and future events will often have a broad topic of discussion, from funding your film to getting the right actors. However, each event will be free-flowing with plenty of off-topic hot potatoes to get your teeth into.
