Music And Wine At St. Luke's
Published 2nd Sep 2008 by Rachel Fryer

Music and Wine at St Luke's invites you to sample their concerts starting this Friday  It is a not for profit organisation which brings live music to the community and to people who do not normally attend classical concerts.

The concert series director, Rachel Fryer, said "so far the concerts have been really well received. The musicians always introduce and talk about their pieces so it is ideal for people who have not attended concerts before. There is always a friendly atmosphere with wine and refreshments served. We have started to build up a concert-going community.

"Most local concerts take place at lunchtimes but we wanted to give people who work during the day an opportunity to attend. We attract a broad age range (the last concert had an audience age ranging from 8 months to 81!) We have had some people who have never been to a classical concert before and who now look forward to it as a perfect way to unwind at the end of the week.

There are a combination of local musicians and young professionals performing here. We have a varied programme and everyone is always impressed by the high standard."

The concerts take place on Friday evenings during the summer months. This Friday features a nationally acclaimed swing jazz violinist, Mike Piggott, there is a string quartet on 19th September and the Vertigo ensemble (vocals, piano and viola) will complete the series on 26th September, performing music ranging from early music to the present day, culminating in some sizzling Spanish flavours.

Concerts take place at St. Luke's Church, Queen's Park Road by the 'pepperpot' in the park. They start at 7.30pm and cost £6 (£4 concessions). Tickets are available on the door.
