Neil Innes - A People’s Guide To World Domination
Published 28th Sep 2009 by Monedia
Sunday 18 October
Neil Innes presents a wry, poignant, humorous and hideously topical one man show, spiced with anecdotes of his life and times in the worlds of media and show biz. Best known for his collaborative work with Monty Python, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and The Rutles, his TV shows for BBC2 - The Innes Book of Records - have become cult classics and are everywhere on YouTube. Fans will know that his solo shows are packed with sharp observations and songs that celebrate the absurdities of modern existence.
Neil Innes began his musical career with The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band while still an art student at Goldsmiths College School of Art, University of London. His early hit – I’m the Urban Spaceman – produced by Apollo C. Vermouth (aka Paul McCartney) topped the UK charts in 1968. The Bonzos also featured in the innovative children’s TV series, Do Not Adjust Your Set, with Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, David Jason and Denise Coffey – this work soon led to Neil joining forces with Monty Python on albums, films and concert tours.
Neil, alongside Eric Idle, created The Rutles - Saturday Night Live’s parody of the Beatles story – whose film All You Need Is Cash starred Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Mick Jagger, George Harrison and Paul Simon. Neil also wrote and produced all the songs in the film, and the album was nominated for a Grammy. Neil has also presented a wide variety of children’s television programmes, including the award-winning Book Tower and Puddle Lane, plus scripts and voices for the Raggy Dolls, as well as find time to write books and perform one-man shows of music and comedy around the world.
NEIL INNES visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 18 October at 7.30pm (food served from 6pm). Tickets are £25 (meal deal) / £15 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
