New Brighton Venue!

New Brighton Venue!
Published 12th Dec 2011 by The Jive Monkey

The Jive Monkey is Brighton’s newest and most unique theatre & bar venue situated right in the heart of the city.

Tucked discreetly away at 5 Steine Street, The Jive Monkey is the brainchild of photographer and producer Sam Eddison and Brighton actress Laura Nixon. Laura is famed for her uncannily accurate onstage portrayal of Marilyn Monroe as seen in the hit show ‘Alive & Swinging with Marilyn Monroe’ which has been wowing audiences at Brighton’s Komedia.

Sam and Laura’s vision of an intimate, adaptable performance space and laid back bar has come to life in this venue which is set to be one of the city’s most loved venues.

Two floors of Monkey magic are on offer. A luxurious ground floor bar with comfortable sofa seating plus an upper floor featuring an intimate and multi-functional theatre space with tables, chairs, bar, all fully air conditioned plus state of the art sound and lighting.

The upper theatre lends itself to a more personal entertainment experience and many renowned performers and Jazz musicians are lining up to take their place on a stage that allows them to truly connect with their audience.

Imagine a dark 1920’s speakeasy with the discretion of a gentlemen’s club plus the excitement of a Berlin cabaret and you’ll have some idea of the special atmosphere created in this hidden gem of a venue and the attention it is already receiving from those in the know.

A diverse roster of entertainment is booked treating audiences to live music, cabaret, and performance art from the unusual and ‘tongue in cheek’ to the downright bizarre including screenings of cult movies with a heavy smattering of authentic live Jazz.

Both Sam and Laura have a long history in the entertainment business and so are looking forward to being able to bring something totally new and unique to the scene catering for those who like their entertainment a little more ‘grown up’.

Open 7 nights a week The Jive Monkey is set to be a focus for performers and the first port of call for those who want quality entertainment or just a relaxed drink in a non- pretentious but glamorous setting.

The Jive Monkey is a genuinely exciting addition to Brighton’s infamous performance scene and compliments the entertainment already available in the city, offering a warm welcome courtesy of Sam and Laura who never forget to put their audiences and customers first.

“We know exactly what it’s like to be both a performer and a customer and we wanted to create a genuinely friendly space that caters for both” says Laura. “We’re passionate about performance too and we were determined to be able to present top quality entertainment in an atmosphere that is conducive to that special audience/artist relationship. We’re thrilled that this is now happening and can’t wait to open to the public”.

A full menu of wines, beers, ales, spirits and cocktails are on offer making this a great place to meet for pre or post theatre drinks and cabaret or just the most decadent place to meet with friends. Open from 5.30pm to midnight weekdays and 12pm to 2am weekends The Jive Monkey also plans regular happy hours from 5.30pm until 7pm.

After a glittering launch party for friends and supporters The Jive Monkey opens it’s doors to the public on December 2nd just in time to be part of the city’s Christmas party season. Two special dates in The Jive Monkeys festive calendar are already setting tongues wagging when on Christmas Eve the magic starts with ‘The Masters Blues Brothers Christmas show’. Whether you’re after Blues, Soul, Comedy or good old Rock ‘n’ Roll this tribute show can bring any party to it’s feet and leave you shouting for MORE!

What better way to ring in the New Years Eve when the ‘This is Elvis’ spectacular comes to The Jive Monkey for this eagerly awaited date. Championed far and wide by international agencies, pop stars and the Edinburgh festival performer Jim Devereaux is about as close to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll as you’ll ever get. Don’t miss this rare chance to see one of the most amazing tributes ever!
