New National Magazine Launches In Brighton

New National Magazine Launches In Brighton
Published 17th Jun 2007 by Fiona Wallace

The Small Press Review is a new magazine that will launch in mid-July. Its aim is to review fiction and poetry from the small and independent presses, which need increasing support as they are squeezed from the shelves of the major bookselling chains. The reviews are written for the intelligent reader who doesn't have the time to trawl the internet looking for books, but would like to know about the wide variety available beyond the shelves of Waterstones. We review all types of fiction, including literary, commercial, translated, crime, historical, science fiction and fantasy.

TSPR is a bimonthly print magazine. The first issue will be 32 pages, but we aim to increase the size if there is demand for it. There are also features on small presses, independent bookshops and international literary magazines, and a section for new fiction and poetry from writers with unpublished manuscripts. More details can be found on the website, including a contents page for the first issue.

An unusual requirement is that we require all our reviewers to sign a declaration, giving details of any links they may have with the writer or publisher of the book they are reviewing. This is following in the footsteps of the reputable scientific journals, and gives readers information that is not normally available to them when they read a review.

TSPR is run by an editorial team living in West Sussex, and printed by rpm reprographics in Chichester.
