Nizlopi At Audio

Nizlopi At Audio
Published 10th Oct 2007 by Kate

‘When were you in a gig last where the people smiled so broad that the reflection from their teeth contributed to the acoustics?’ BBC. Armed with wickedly original tracks from their upcoming album, Nizlopi are bursting out of the studio and taking to the road this October to get people up on their feet.

Nizlopi are itching to get out on tour this October to play their new songs. In response to the request of fans they are playing a series of their famously energetic, electrifying and empowering gigs, up close and intimate.

Nizlopi have just received the Impala platinum award for outstanding international album sales by an independent artist. After the whirlwind of their DIY-released Jcb Song, Nizlopi have spent the last seven months writing and recording these new songs. A new album, Make It Happen, will be released on the independent Folk n’ Deadly Records in March. This on-going process has included a low-carbon

(overland on public transport) trip to Senegal to play

with musicians there.

The up rise tour is a call to feet, inspired by their new song “England up rise” featuring Benjamin Zephaniah and up-and-coming rapper Jimmy Davis. Luke Concannon: “This song came to me on a train journey down to Cornwall. The land was so beautiful but like a sleeping giant. It’s inspired by our passion to reclaim “England” (and the world) from fascists and war-mongers, and to celebrate the people-power, music, creativity, activism and human spirit that is here. The spirit that embraces multiculturalism and protests war, the spirit that will tackle climate change, the spirit that gets up and dances, and the spirit that inspires us to rise up from our slumber and start building the world we want to see.”

The call to get up stand up is a central part of experiencing this band live. This is music that moves people and connects with what they really care about. And the passion that these two musicians feel about playing live creates a buzz that is quite unlike anything else.
